We were trying to watch the movie “The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford” yesterday. I said “were trying” because my husband and I slept before the movie ended. I think I didn’t even reach the half of the movie.
I remember I bought the DVD because I saw Brad Pitt on the cover. Now, I am not a big fan of Mr. Jolie but he just gives the impression that the movies he is in should be good movies. For some, Jessie James may be a good movie for someone who doesn’t know Jessie James (urhm! that would be me), the movie will be considered boring.
I didn’t know Jessie James until this morning when I read about him in Wikipedia. I might try to watch the movie again and I hope that this time, I can see it in a whole new way.

1I have been sitting on this DVD for 2 weeks. My guess is that it is as you describe - slow and ponderous. However, I think the main thing keeping me from watching it thus far is the knowledge that, no matter how well made and slick and how well acted and produced, at its core it will be the same as every other film about such characters, whether they are western outlaws, clockers in the hood or modern Mafiosi - glorifying and romanticizing thieves and murderers. That’s what movies do, I’m afraid.
I’ll let you know my verdict. hahah
